Our legacy of industry 'firsts' is based upon our expertise in paper coatings with our research scientists and engineers focused on developing product enhancements, new products and process improvements. Continuous improvement cannot happen without innovation. Throughout our history we have sought better ways to meet our customers' needs through new and improved product offerings and services. We have pioneered some of the paper industry's biggest technological achievements including:
- The first coated paper
- The first two-sided coated paper
- Lightweight, coated wood-free paper for the publishing industry
- High bulk-to-weight coated paper
- A process for producing unique release papers, Ultracast, using electron-beam radiation to cure the release coating
- A high speed, high temperature process for producing in-line gloss calendered paper
Driven by our passion to continue innovating, our five-year goal is to generate 25% of revenue from products and services that are less than five years old. Our tradition of innovation, paired with our commitment to sustainable growth, will continue to enhance Sappi's position as the world's leading manufacturer of coated fine papers.
